Summer and Fall Are the Time for Housing Credit Advocacy
This summer presents the best opportunity for the affordable housing community to take action to demonstrate the importance of expanding and strengthening the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit). Congress is expecting to consider major tax legislation in the 119th Congress (2025 – 2026), as numerous temporary provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will be expiring at the end of 2025. This is our chance to advance the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (AHCIA), and it is essential that we build as much support for the bill now to position it to be considered when Congress considers major reforms to the tax code next year. While a picture is worth a thousand words, allowing Members of Congress to get out and see the Housing Credit at work in their communities is the best way to get their support for the program and the AHCIA.
