Take Action: Urge Local Leaders to Support the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act
The housing affordability crisis in the U.S. has reached a breaking point—and Congress has a bold, bipartisan solution: the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2025 (AHCIA).
Reintroduced in the House on April 8 and in the Senate on April 29, this legislation would expand and strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit—our nation’s most effective tool for creating and preserving affordable homes. But to move forward, Congress needs to hear loud and clear from communities across the country.
That’s why the ACTION Campaign, in partnership with the National League of Cities, National Association of Counties, and Mayors & CEOs for U.S. Housing Investment, is coordinating a sign-on letter from mayors, county executives, county board chairs, and other local elected officials calling on Congress to pass the AHCIA.
💥 This is a crucial moment. As Congress works on tax legislation, housing must be part of the conversation.
Here’s how you can help:
If you’re a local leader—or work with one—now is the time to act. Let’s show Congress that communities across America are demanding bold action on housing.
Ask your local elected officials—mayors, county executives, or county board chairs—to sign on to the letter.
Remind them if they supported a similar letter in the past (in 2023), and encourage them to do so again.
Share local impact by providing ACTION’s state and district Housing Credit factsheets to help make the case.
⏰ The deadline is Tuesday, May 6 at 5 PM ET.
