Businesses, nonprofits, and public agencies from across the country sign letter to support the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2023

On May 31, 2023, ACTION sent a letter to congressional leadership in support of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2023 (AHCIA) signed by over 2,600 organizations, businesses, and public entities. The signatories urge Members of Congress to support the legislation through cosponsorship and encourage them to include the bill’s provisions to expand and strengthen the Housing Credit in any tax legislation that moves forward.
The AHCIA, was introduced on May 11 by Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Todd Young (R-IN), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL-16), Suzan DelBene (D-WA-01), Brad Wenstrup (R-OH-02), Don Beyer (D-VA-08), Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19).
Notably, the Housing Credit legislation secured the support of over 100 Members of Congress within the first two weeks of introduction, including 14 Senators and 94 Representatives, evenly split among Republicans and Democrats. The AHCIA would help address the country’s severe shortage of affordable rental housing by protecting, expanding, and strengthening the Housing Credit.
